Top advertising honored

The Montgomery Advertising Federation celebrated the area's best in advertising during its 47th Annual MAF ADDY Awards at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.

The MAF received more than 200 entries from various ad agencies, schools and companies. This year's top award winners were:

  • Print Best in Show: LWT Communications

  • Interactive Best in Show: Square Root Solutions

  • Best of No-Show: LWT Communications

  • Judges' Choice Award: LWT Communications and LWT/KBK New Media

  • Copywriter of the Year: Blu Gillian of Copperwing Design

  • Designer of the Year: Camille Leonard, Art Director for LWT Communications

    Company project wins

    Jenkins Brick Company received the Project of the Year Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) for the company's use of landfill gas at its newest brick manufacturing plant.

    The company was honored at the 10th Annual LMOP Conference and Project Expo in Baltimore.

    The company's newest facility uses clean-burning landfill gas as fuel for its brick kiln. This is the first facility in the United States to take advantage of local landfill gas. Jenkins Brick has been using landfill gas since 1998.

    Electrical engineer hired

    John Averett has joined the municipal engineering division at Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood Inc. Averett is a registered electrical engineer with more than 12 years of experience.

    His professional background includes the design of electrical systems for various clients and supervising engineering personnel.

    Prior to joining Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, Averett served as the vice president and engineering manager for a local firm. He is a 1994 Auburn University graduate and earned his MBA from Auburn Montgomery. Averett is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Construction Management Association of Alabama.

    Association names CEO

    Doug Thiessen has joined Federal Land Back Association of South Alabama as CEO. Thiessan is coming from the First Ag Credit, FCS association in Lubbock, Texas, where he served as senior vice president and chief financial officer.

    Theissan has 12 years of Farm Credit System experience. He earned his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and the Louisiana State University School of Banking. He is currently completing the executive MBA program at Troy University.

    Kirby distributor honored

    Dave McDaniel, who operates a Kirby distributorship, recently was recognized for reaching business goals by Kirby World Headquarters.

    The recognition is part of the Challenge of Champions "Your Road Map to Success" Campaign, a yearlong promotion in which distributors can win prizes and trips for their outstanding performance.

    General manager named

    Ed Robbins has been named general manager of Alabama Design and Construction.

    Robbins, a Kentucky native, brings many years of experience in the design, construction and roofing industries.
